Listen when the Spirit speaks

Last night at Overflow we talked about how when the Spirit of God speaks you are Experiencing God. Listen to the podcast Here.  I mentioned a story that Terri Sanders past on to me and I told you that I would blog about it.

LISTEN: This is a most read article.  It will challenge you.  Its worth the read.   This story is about Beth Moore and how she fought with what God wanted her to do.

Beth Moore is a gifted Bible study teacher, writer of Bible Studies, and a married mother of 2 daughters.

This actually happened to her on April 20, 2005 in the Knoxville Airport – (it is worth the read!)

Waiting to board the plane: I had the Bible on my lap and was very intent upon what I was doing. I’d had a marvelous morning with the Lord. I say that because I want to tell you it is a scary thing to have the Spirit of God really working in you. You could end up doing some things you never would have done otherwise Life in the Spirit can be dangerous for a thousand reasons not the least of which is your ego..

I tried to keep from staring but he was such a strange sight. Humped over in a wheelchair, he was skin and bones, dressed in clothes that obviously fit when he was at least twenty pounds heavier. His knees protruded from his trousers, and his shoulders looked like the coat hanger was still in his shirt. His hands looked like tangled masses of veins and bones. The strangest part of him was his hair and nails. Stringy gray hair hung well over his shoulders and down part of his back. His fingernails were long. Clean, but strangely out of place on an old man.   Read the rest here.

Story Side B- Be Still

He wants to be your everything…..

Last night in our MPACT group we talked about Loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength.
It was neat to here the guys share their thoughts on it. (Experiencing God 3.1) Most of them said they want to love God with their everything but it just seems like so much is fighting for their attention.  Brian, from Rethink Youth Ministry writes about the same thought here.

I love reading through the Bible and listening to people talk about HOW GREAT GOD is.  I belive that God is worthy of all praise and Honor.   The names He is given through out the Bible declare that He is worthy and He is capable of being your Everything.   The main need in your life is to KNOW HIM.

Check out some of the names of God.  I found them here.

  • So whats keeping you from surrendering everything to God?
  • Whats effecting your relationship with God?
  • Whats holding you back from loving Him with your everything?

Check out Matthew West’s song titled.  “You are Everything”.

Date God- Exp God 3.3

Matt 22:37 says “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest comandment.

As I was reading I was thinking- Is this type of love really possible?  While on earth, living in our sinful bodies, will we truely ever be able to love God like this?
I am not sure.  I think for periods we can love God with everything.  But to do it daily…. for the rest of your life??

Here is what I do know.

Time with Him enriches and deepens the relationship I have with Him.

The priority in our lives should be to love God with our everything.

The more you know Him and experience His love, the more you will love Him.

Its kind of like a dating relationship.  The more time you spend with them the more in love you fall.

Date God- Spend time getting to know Him.  Spend time experiencing His love.

Reasons why I feel alone- Exeriencing God 3.2

I’m gonna break down a little Experiencing God and culture.  I think many of us are living are lives and we feel all alone.  Someone tries to talk to you about God and your like whatever God doesnt care about me.  But in reality God loves you He is trying to get your attention because you have your ladder against the wrong walls.

Picture in your mind a tall ladder leanign against a wall.  Now think about your life as a process of climbing that ladder.  Would’nt it be a tragedy to get to the top of the ladder and find you placed it against the wrong wall?  One life to live and you missed it!

We are designed for a loving relationship with God.  We are designed to worship and adore Him.  To love and obey Him.  Anything opposite of a loving obedience with God is just another ladder leaning on the wrong wall.

I’m gonna get real with you.  I think many of you would rather relate and live the lifestyle of these songs than have a real a personal relationship with Jesus.

Would you rather be “LOW”  or with Jesus?- (Flow Rida Featuring T Pain). LYRICS HERE.

Would you rather live the lyrics to be “With YOU”  with someone on earth or spend time with Jesus? (Chris Brown)  LYRICS HERE

Maybe you feel so alone because God is trying to get your attention.  He wants you to lean your ladder on the right wall.  He wants you to surrender your life to His ways and purposes.  He wants you to love and obey Him and your response to God is similar to how Soulja Boy responds to people in Tell’em Yahhh. LYRICS HERE

Maybe its time to get your ladder on the right wall and live your 1 life for God.

Created for a Love relationship 3.1

I wanted to keep you updated on my Experiencing God study but somehow I didnt blog about week two.  Here are my thoughts on week 3 day 1.

Have you ever felt distant from God?  Have you ever felt like He isnt involved in your life?  Do you ever feel like your life is falling all apart and God is doing nothing about it?

Maybe you should try and answer the following question.

Can you describe your relationship with God by sincerely saying, I love you with all of my heart?

I think many of us would answer the question the exact same way that man does in Chapter 3 day 1.

Nobody has ever asked me that…No, I could not describe my relationship with God that way.  I could say I obey Him, I serve Him, I worship Him, and I fear Him.  But I cannot say that I love Him with all my heart.

My question would be: Is it possible (WHILE ON EARTH) to love God with your ALL your heart, with ALL your soul, and with ALL your mind and ALL your strength? Mark 12:30.  The Bible says the greatest commandment is to love God this way.

And if it is possible what would a life totally sold out for Christ look like?  Do you think you would be concerned with how bad your life appears if you were focused on loving God with your ALL?

Leave comments on what you think.

God-Centered Living 2.1

Unit 2 of Experiencing God talks about looking to God.  Day 1 starts out right point the attention to God.  Its like cat & dog theology.  John 12:25 says

The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for enternal life.

To truely experience God in our lives we must deny self and live lives centered on God and His purposes.   “God-centeredness requires a daily denial of self and submission to God.”

So what hits me hard regarding this thought is often I try to live God Centered but when I dont see God at work I step up and see let me do something for God.   This chapter challenged me to wait on God.  Allow God to show me what He is doing.  And then watch for the ways that I can join Him.  I must learn to “focus your life on God’s purposes not your own plans.”

So what did day 1 of chapter 2 teach you?

God Works through His Servants Part 1.5

A thought that has really been standing out to me regarding how God works through us is the fact that God’s standards are probably different from ours.

We think we have to have it all together for God to use us.  If your 30 and under you might think your to young to be used of God.   Maybe your a new Christian and you feel that you dont know enough.  Maybe you have made some mistakes and you just cant see how God could use you.

When we think of success we often think of longevity and some kind of superstar.   Did you know that Jesus Ministry only lasted 3 years?  I would say it was pretty succesful in a very short amount of time.  Did you know that the 12 disciples were just ordinary men?

I am enouraged when I think about the fact that the way God views success in ministry and life is probably a lot different then the way we do.   He is in Heaven and we are on earth.  His ways and thoughts are not ours.

I believe God can use you.   He might only use you for a month, a year, or maybe for the rest of your life, but God wants to work through you.  Will you surrender to Him?
